Key partners include Karolinska University Hospital, Sahlgrenska University Hospital, and Halmstad University, among others.

In a significant international partnership, three Swedish university hospitals—Karolinska, Skåne, and Sahlgrenska—are collaborating with Unity Health Toronto to enhance AI capabilities in healthcare. The project focuses on improving diagnostics, treatment, and resource utilization through AI solutions. 

Major EU Funding for AI in Healthcare

Karolinska Institutet, along with other Swedish institutions, has secured over SEK 100 million from the European Commission's Digital Europe programme. The funding supports the TEF-Health project, which aims to accelerate the introduction of AI and robotics in healthcare, enhancing efficiency and reducing inequalities.

Shared Digital Assistant Initiative

AI Sweden is spearheading the development of a shared digital assistant for the public sector, involving 55 municipalities, regions, and authorities. The initiative aims to streamline case processing and improve decision-making support, with over 2,000 employees participating nationwide. 

AI for Municipalities and Civil Society

In collaboration with Vinnova, AI Sweden is investing in a four-year program to support AI adoption in Sweden's 290 municipalities and various civil society organizations. The initiative provides tailored support and resources to facilitate AI integration at the local level. 


Strategic Investments and Global Collaborations

Microsoft's $3.2 Billion Investment

Microsoft has announced a $3.2 billion investment to expand its cloud and AI infrastructure in Sweden over the next two years. The initiative includes deploying advanced graphics processing units at data centers and training 250,000 Swedes in AI skills, emphasizing the country's commitment to becoming a global AI hub. 

Nordic-Baltic AI Center

The groundwork for establishing a Nordic-Baltic AI Center has been finalized, marking a significant step towards regional collaboration in AI development. The center aims to foster innovation and strengthen the AI ecosystem across the Nordic and Baltic countries.
